Creative Impressions has opened !!

The big day finally came & went. The brainchild of my daughter & me opened on Saturday. We have all as a group worked to bring this together & make it happen. I'm happy with the look & feel of the store. I love how all of our things mesh so nicely in the space we have.

Going from being all about the bras, to trying to enjoy a week's vacation to finishing up everything with the store has been a feat for sure. The bras were a big success. The vacation was a nice needed break before the holidays. Now I can better focus not only on my work but on the store.

I finally got some more tile coasters prepared on Saturday afternoon. Big thanks to Mother Nature for giving me a fairly warm sun-shiny afternoon to spray them. Now they sit to dry completely before I stack them in sets & bring them to the mall.

There is a new post over on the stores blog too...
Creative Impressions

I'll work on sharing photos soon. Just need a bit of time to adjust to us being open.

Bridge to a Cure photos

Alrighty ... I got some photos cropped & edited to put up online. Whew! My hubby sure got shutter happy!! But that's exactly what I wanted him to do since I was participating & not able to be behind the camera myself. He did really well too. Thanks honey!

So these photos are from the big day. You'll see some pictures of the film crew mixed in with all of us. If you live in the Wenatchee Area & are reading this, I encourage you to go see these. Trying to convey what all those bras look like in pictures is nothing to going & experiencing them for yourself. They will be up until Sunday. Sunday at 1pm we will begin to take them all down. Not sure exactly what will happen to them yet. We were not able to get them all strung up to begin with tho ... the bridge was too small!!

Enjoy the photos!! Click on the photo below, it will take you to the album on my Nicole's Visions MySpace page. I'll be adding some captions later. I just wanted to at least get all the pix up there.

Wenatchee World Bra event article

After a long day. the newspaper guys, the film makers & all us women had a fulfilling & fun time. Here is the article The World put out. It will appear in print in the Monday edition.

Bra Display Highlights Breast Cancer Awareness

I've gotten the photos onto the computer, but have not sorted thru them to post any yet. Today is a day off where the man & I are going to chase some fall color. I'll work on editing the photos & getting them online early next week.

Bras by the numbers ... again

This count is not accurate as I know Drop Dead Fabulous has ALOT more than listed here.
I updated so the count is now much more accurate. Final count will be Saturday sometime. Should be fantastic!

Drop Dead Fabulous at last count ... 966

At my home ... 252

Total so far ... 1218

I spent some time recounting the ones at home just to be sure I had not messed up along the way. Then I began the process of separating them by the amount of hooks they have. This will help to make things a bit easier come hooking day. I have 14 that have been written on & are not included in the separated count below.

(click on them to see them bigger)

There were 23 bras with 1 hook. 126 with 2 hooks. 43 with 3 hooks. 16 with 4 hooks. And 1 with 5 hooks. Now all these close in the back. Then we have 29 that are a combination of front close, training with no hooks, & of course the one corset. Interesting. I can't wait to see them all strung together.

Picking up the boxes today from the East Wenatchee locations also brought some donations of money! I collected $65 in cash & checks!! A big thank you to all of you!!

Happy Monday!!

Good Morning Everyone!!
The sun is shining & fall is definitely in the air here in Central Washington. I had hoped to get out & photograph some of that beautiful Autumn color, but it will have to wait until this Sunday. Wait for me color!!!! I can only hope it wont be too late.

This weekend I spent alot of time at the mall. We ended up having the table there all weekend long. I was there most of the evening Friday, on & off on Saturday, & again on Sunday. We had a great response to the cause. A few people couldn't believe we have the nerve to string bras in public, but the majority thought it was a fantastic idea. The promise of many donated bras was there all weekend. I personally went 7 emptied the box at Style Masters on Friday evening. I had another donation on Saturday from the Harry Richie Jewelers Ladies. Thanks to you all. The deadline is fast approaching too, this Wednesday.

We were set up with Coffee Mecca & Wellness Place. Coffee Mecca did a great job with their bake sale. Wellness Place did great getting the word out about the center & breast cancer. They started with a stack of pink bracelets & thanks to the generous donations of many people over the weekend, the bracelets were gone by mid afternoon Sunday!

Oh I have to tell you all ... I splurged & got a mango fruit smoothie from coffee Mecca on Sunday. Oh Yum!! Nothing but a fruit puree & ice. It was awesome!

I'll check on the drop boxes today & bring a bra count update tonite.
Have a fantastic day !!!

Meet me at the mall !!

The Wenatchee Valley Mall is having a fair this weekend. Among the festivities will be informational tables such as ours. Near the main entrance (see photo above) are a few tables featuring the Bridge to a Cure, Bras for a Cause information & the Wellness Place table promoting breast cancer awareness.

Coffee Mecca will have a bake sale with proceeds going to Wellness Place. Their table for the sale is right there with us! Yum!

All American Ice Cream is donating .50 from every pink item sold over the fair weekend.

If you happen to read this & live in the area, I'd love to meet you. I will be there at the table on Saturday from 11 to 1. I hope to make it back in the evening for a little while too.

If they are in a bag, you can drop off your bras with me! Or, you can still bring them to any of the drop off locations listed in this post.
The deadline is fast approaching. It's Wednesday the 15th.

*mall photos are from the Wenatchee Valley Mall's MySpace.

A film? About Bras?

How cool would that be right? Well, taking pictures of the event is the best we thought we would get. Funny how things in your world can change in a day. Let me explain ....

I got a letter yesterday from a filmmaker who had heard about the bra project. I was so excited! She wants to make a film about what we are doing. Did ya have to read that twice? I did!! I was beside myself thinking we were doing something so big that warranted a film. Woah!!

Her name is Kathy Kiefer. She owns JACOL filmworks. And even better... she lives in fairly nearby Soap Lake, WA. She wants to make a mini documentary about the whole project. The finished product will be available on DVD. A portion of the proceeds from each sale will go to a breast cancer place of our choosing. She plans for the tape to be about 30 minutes long. And we'll be involved in the editing of it and have final approval of the final product. Too cool.

I am so excited to meet her next week. She is excited too. I think this will lend a whole other aspect to the whole thing. She'll be interviewing both myself & Laura as well as any other folks involved that we think she should speak to.

I'll keep you all updated on the whole thing!!

Until then, if you'd like to get to know a little about her, & her work ...

Another Bra Count Update

It's that time again everyone!! I love watching these numbers grow. And I'll be stopping by the drop off places this weekend too. So let's hope this number is way bigger by Monday!!

Bras at Drop Dead Fabulous - 368

At my Home - 168

Total so far .......... 536 !!!

Fantastic!! I know we can do better tho ... come on!!
We still have until Wednesday so there is time to collect many more.

I took a picture the other day of the pile at the Drop Dead Fabulous Shop. You all saw it in the blog post. Well, today, the pile looked so much bigger!! Laura had to find a better way to continue the pile! So, a super cute chest was added. I'll have to swing by & snap a shot of that!

I want to say a huge thank you to all the wonderful people who have taken the time to send bras in the mail. That means so much to me, & this cause!!! You all ROCK!!

Can I make a difference??

Can I make a difference? Me? All by myself?

People ask this of themselves often. So many people think the little things they do can't possibly make a difference in the big scheme of things.

How wrong they are.

One Penny. One penny for every bra that we collect. Can you handle that? If we collect our goal of 2000, that is only $20. At our current count, that would only be $4.84.

See? You can make a difference in the lives of others by doing your little part. I encourage each & every person to donate 1 penny for each bra we collect. All the money collected will stay right here in town. Wellness Place will be so grateful for your pennies.

Together, our pennies will add up big. So even alone we can make a difference ...

Donations can be brought to Drop Dead Fabulous at 108 First St. or mailed to Nicole's Visions at PO Box 1602, Wenatchee, WA 98807. Checks should be made payable to Wellness Place.

Bra Count !!

So here we go again. As of the count below which was done on the 7th, we're almost at 500. Can you believe it? How incredible is that??
We currently have enough to span the pedestrian bridge twice at least. But we can't stop there people!! We need to collect as many as possible, to raise the awareness!!

At Drop Dead Fabulous ... 347

At my home ... 137

Total so far ... 484

Ahhh .... Approval for Bras

How fantastic is this ?? We have the approval from the Mayor of Wenatchee!! Now granted, it was not our first choice as to location, but the important part is that we have approval. Laura Herrera of Drop Dead Fabulous finally got someone to give her an answer.
Whew!! Thanks for all those phone calls & your persistence Laura!!

The bras will be strung along both sides of the pedestrian bridge. It is located at the foot of First Street in downtown Wenatchee. It bridges the railroad tracks & connects downtown to the Apple Capital Loop Trail. It's actually a perfect place to have the bras on display. People will be able to walk the bridge & see just how many wonderful bras we collected from not only The Valley, but all over the US. People will also be able to see the fun some ladies had "blinging" their bras before they donated them!!

Some people had issues with the bras waving form a bridge that was traveled everyday by thousands of people, including children. Well, I wont get into the children part but I do understand the traffic issue. There is concern that having the bras flying high on the bridge might cause traffic concerns. So, this pedestrian bridge is again the perfect solution.

So watch for those bras to be on display form October 19th to the 26th !!!

Thanks Mayor Dennis Johnson!!

Bra News & Bra counts

This is all getting so exciting people!! Laura has collected lots of bras from the Wenatchee side of the river the past couple days. I've gotten some by mail & a few from the boxes on this side. But even more exciting was my friend telling me about another place doing the bra thing.

Check out the article I found on it. >> HERE << One of the comments from a guessing reader (Helen in Victoria, Canada) on how many bras it would take: Well the Bridge is 7/8 of a mile long - which is 4620 feet divided by 36" or 3 feet (Average per Bra)= 1540 Bras from one end of the Bridge to the other - just a guess. Let's Hope there is a cure soon.

The friend who told me about this got some pix with his cell phone. I'll have to get him to email me some if he can.

So on to the bra count update!!! Ready?

Laura is stopping by the clinic today as they have said they have 2 bags full!! So we'll ad those to the count this weekend.

Etsy Treasury

One of my fall prints is featured in an Etsy Treasury.
It's active until I believe Tuesday evening.

Check it out by clicking here. My print is top center.

Pretty cool.

Bra Bling Party

These ladies had a fantastic time adding "bling" to the bras they are donating to the Bridge to a Cure, Bras for a Cause event. It's not too late to have a party like this of your own!! Get your friends together for a great cause. Remember bra donation deadline is October 15th.

Variety is the spice of life

This statement can mean many things.
What I mean ... is the wide variety of bras we're getting...

Blog Changes

Along with working on the bra project, I took a little time to make a few changes to the blog. I added an Etsy Mini on the side. This is a sampling of the items I have up for sale on Etsy. Clicking on any given item will take you to the listing.

I also added 2 sign up boxes. One is to follow the blog here. The other is to sign up for my periodic newsletters. I've done them before & things just got so busy, they stopped. I will be reviving them soon. Signing up will not flood your inboxes with tons of email. Periodic is just that. Periodic. It may be once a week, or once a month, or somewhere in between, or less often.

What will the newsletter include? Sales, specials, new or featured products, as well as news of interest regarding my art & my photography endeavors. So feel free to sign up if this interests you.

New prints listed on Etsy

So after I spent some time editing the already listed items on my Etsy shop, I went about listing a couple new prints. Since fall is almost here, what better time to list a couple of my very colorful fall prints?

Both of these were taken up near Steven's Pass. We went exploring in late fall one year down what we would later find out was White Pine Road. What a wonderful hidden area this is. Beautiful winding road into the mountains. Where we pulled over was fantastic. Just below a railroad crossing we parked the car & went walking. These photos are the result of some of the scenery we saw. I forget the name of the small river winding thru.

Clicking on either photo will take you to their respective listing on my Etsy shop.

Selling on Etsy

I spent some time today editing some of my listings on my Etsy shop. I changed the order in which the photos were entered. I'm hoping that by doing this, the photos one sees when looking for items will be more appealing & encourage them to click & view the item details more often.

For instance ... this picture

is now what you see for the Earth Laughs in Flowers book mark
instead of seeing this picture ...

Etsy makes a square thumbnail so all people saw was part of the green & part of the words. I think this change was good on my part.

For my coasters, you used to see this picture first ...

Now you see just the flower, like this ...

Clicking on any of the images will take you directly to my Etsy shop & the listing I'm talking about. So what do you think?

Bra & Breast Cancer stuff update

Whew !! It's been a seemingly long couple of days since this all started. Let's see what I can tell you has happened since then.

I am getting an overwhelmingly positive response from everyone I talk to! This is fantastic. It makes me smile to know other people out there are supporting my idea. I can't even begin to tell you what this does for me on a personal level people. Talk about some good feel-good stuff going on inside me. I love it. I feel like I have a purpose! And a good one at that!

But anyways... what's new?

Well, I have the first of the bras already in my possession! The local Women s Resource Center has given me 6 bras!! We're on our way!!

I've spoken with my local Avon Lady, Judy Field. She has kindly donated 10 Avon shipping boxes to me to use as drop boxes for various locations around town. She's also going to go about collecting bras from within her customer base & representative downline. Big thanks to you Judy!! I'll be looking for some "breast cancer pink" wrapping paper to cover the boxes with next. I tried some pink spray paint, but it just doesn't look like I had envisioned. I hadn't even thought of the wrapping paper idea until she mentioned today when she dropped off boxes for me.

Laura has been getting good response on her end as well. She mentioned an email she had gotten from some local folks who were taking things a step further than just donating bras. They are planning a get together to decorate the bras!! How fantastic is that? It does my heart good to know there are so many caring people out there willing to show their support.

So far we have 2 drop off locations nailed down. The first is Drop Dead Fabulous of course. Located at 108 First Street in Wenatchee, they are open noon to 5 Tuesday thru Saturday. The second place is Crabby's Diner in East Wenatchee at 136 Eastmont. She opens at 11 & is open thru dinner hours. It sounds like we have another Wenatchee location, but I wont say until I know for sure.

If you are reading this & are a local Wenatchee or East Wenatchee business who'd like to be drop off location, please contact me!!

Also, if you are a local business reading ... we need sponsors! We need people to step up & say they will donate X amount of money per bra collected.

About donations ... Being a smaller town, we have given this some thought. Of course everyone knows the Susan G Komen Foundation. Well, not everyone knows that our own town has needs too. We'd like to work to give back to our community. With this in mind, we have decided that donations will go to 2 places. Money collected locally will be givne to our very own Wellness Place. The money received will be put to use right here in our community for cancer related issues!! Money collected form abroad, can be given to either place. As not everyone knows Wellness Place, they can choose. Any questions .. feel free to contact me!!

My last thing today is my own effort. Well wait, this has all been because of my effort huh? Well, this one is something I can do with the skills I have. Photography. I've had an idea in my head to create something to sell with some proceeds going to breast cancer. I have the idea! I'm gonna work on a product ... more to come as I develop it ....

Breast Cancer Awareness here we come !!!!

What have I gotten myself into? Something that could (& hopefully will) become huge.
Breast Cancer month is coming fast. October is just around the corner.

Last year sometime I had come across some photos online by a female photographer. She had seen the bras that had been collected & stretched across the Kansas River bridge. What an awesome sight that was. I knew then that I had to find a way to do that here in our Valley.

The thought stuck with me throughout the year.

Fast forward to yesterday. I brought my framed 16x20 donation print to Laura & Rhonda at Drop Dead Fabulous & stayed to chat with both ladies.
I made mention of my thoughts about the bras.

We talked a bit about what it might entail to make this work. The thought of just planning for next year was mentioned. Small ideas for this year were mentioned.

Rhonda makes her own scented lotions & such. She is making a special scent for Breast Cancer Awareness month. It will only be available in October. We talked about a name. Laura was saying it needed to be something that made you aware, alert & all that. I said .. call it Aware. But that's so ... simple Laura said. Simple is good. Simple will be remembered. So ... I helped name the new scent !! Aware .. by Rhonda. I can't wait to smell it.

After getting home yesterday afternoon, I looked online to see if I could find the photos & some info on the bras across the bridge thing. Info found! I emailed Laura & said maybe if we're crazy enough we could make this work this year. Maybe? She says go for it!!! So .... here we are.

Laura (who is a fantastic life coach) is on TV (a local cable channel) every week. She will also be on the radio a few times before the big event. This means we already have 2 major advertising venues. We'll work on getting the local paper involved. We'll work on getting sponsors for the bras. You know, getting businesses to say they will donate x amount of money for each bra collected, to the Breast Cancer foundation. Cool huh?

Wanna help?

Send me your bras !!!!

I spent late last night getting the word out in various places online.
Typed up an email & went to town !!!
To help out, send any unused, clean bras to me:

Nicole's Visions
Nicole Castille
PO Box 1602
Wenatchee, WA 98807-1602

You can write on the bras if you want. Show your support. It doesn't matter what kind of bra it is, send it. Old or new, big or small, colored or white, lace, wild or plain ... just send it!!

I'll be taking many photos of all the bras, the final turnout & offering them for sale after the event as well. I plan to document this process in photos. So watch for piles of donated bras, bras with loving memories, bras with words of support, etc. What fun!! After the event, & the bras come down from where ever they end up, I'll make some prints that will be for sale. A percentage of the proceeds will always be donated to the breast cancer foundation.

The plans still have kinks to work out, but we cant' do any of it without bras!!
We may not be able to string them across the bridge, but we'll make these 2 towns
(Wenatchee & East Wenatchee) take notice & become more aware of the importance
of early breast cancer detection.

I'll keep everyone updated as things progress.

Here's a few places that have done this already:
From the Brisbane Times in Australia
In the UK
In Canada
Another US one
The Kansas one

If you have links to other places that have done this, please let me know.
I'll be happy to add their info.

The many options when creating Samples

I've been working on some samples. I've mentioned before that I belong to a street team on Etsy. We're putting together a Washington Friendship Box. It is something that people will be able to buy, which will be full of samples from all the team members who wish to participate. The samples we include are supposed to ideally represent our product line. You know, something that will make the receiver say "oh wow, I need to see what else this person has to offer". It is meant to be a tool to offer each of us more site traffic, & hopefully more sales.

I had a hard time coming up with something that was both representative of my work, & inexpensive to create. After all, this is something that I will essentially be giving away. We are donating all the products for the box. The proceeds from the box sales will go to help our team advertise for all of us & various other team things.

So since I already make magnets for the fridge, I thought about making a smaller version of the kind I currently have for sale on Etsy. Then I also wanted them to be durable.

I came up with a smaller, laminated magnet. I may end up selling some online, but right now that is doubtful. I do have a couple other places I could use them as samples to help promote myself.

Now keeping in mind these are essentially giveaways on my end, I'd love some input on not only the concept, but the packaging. I don't want to spend too much time on them, but enough time that they look nice. At first I thought I needed to really package them nicely with ribbon or yarn or something. I came up with this ...

This is proving to be time consuming. While out running a few errands today I came across these nice clear bags that have a self sealing feature. I could still use the yarn I got, or not. I'm wondering if the yarn & the bag are too much. These will all be together in a box with many other samples. that's one reason I thought the bag might be a better idea than the yarn. I was tying together the magnet & a sample card explaining who the sample was from. So, with the bag they would then look more like this...

I'm leaning towards the no yarn idea. Would love some opinions. You can click on any of the images above to get a bigger view if that helps offer any insight.

Something to explore?

So, I'm hearing more & more about these little things.
I'm considering trying this with some of my photography.

Art Cards, Editions and Originals

In short, ACEO. There is also ATC, another name for them.

I've already looked into the cost per item & it would not be bad to do.
I'll be reading more on the whole thing before I get into it, but I think I like this idea.
